Understanding the List

One List.
Three contexts.

The List identifies substances and methods that are prohibited at different times or in particular sports.

Training + competition

At all times.

Applies both in competition and out of competition, including training, recovery and time away from sport.

The competition period

In competition.

Additional restrictions apply during the in-competition period. Check your sport’s rules and the relevant conditions in the List.

Sport-specific rules

In particular sports.

Some restrictions depend on the sport. Always select the correct sport when checking a medicine.

Read the full List for doses, routes of administration, thresholds and exceptions. A substance may be prohibited even if it is not individually named.

Before you take it

Check your
medicine.

Global Drug Reference Online helps athletes and support personnel check medicines and active ingredients against the current WADA Prohibited List.

  1. Choose the country of purchase.

Select your sport and the country where the medicine was bought. The same brand can contain different ingredients in different countries.

  2. Match the exact product.

Search the medicine name or its active ingredients. Check that the result matches your product and review any route, dose or other conditions.

  3. Read and keep the result.

Save your search reference. Re-check when your medicine changes and at the start of each year. If anything is unclear, ask ADAMAS for guidance.

Bought in Malaysia?

Malaysian products may not appear in Global DRO. A missing result does not mean a medicine is permitted. Check the active ingredients and contact ADAMAS with the medicine name and ingredient list.

Supplements need a separate check.

Global DRO does not assess supplement products. Checking individual ingredients cannot confirm a supplement is safe: its actual contents may differ from the label.

Before you leave

Ready to
travel?

Plan your treatment before travelling abroad. Medicine rules and entry requirements can differ between countries.

Medicine · Prescription · TUE
  • Pack enough medicine.

Bring enough for your trip, within the quantities allowed by your destination and any transit countries.

  • Check its anti-doping status.

Check every medicine against the WADA List currently in force before you leave.

  • Confirm entry requirements.

Check whether you may bring in and possess the medicine. Ask the relevant embassy, customs or medicines authority.

  • Keep the original packaging.

Carry your medicine in its original labelled packaging so the product and ingredients can be identified.

  • Carry medical documents.

Bring your prescription or a doctor’s letter stating the medicine, dose and method of administration.

  • Bring your valid TUE.

If your treatment requires a TUE, carry a copy and check recognition requirements for your event.

Buying medicine abroad

Same brand.
A fresh check.

A familiar name or similar packaging does not guarantee the same formulation as a Malaysian product. Check every medicine purchased abroad before use, even if you have used or checked a product with that name before. If you cannot confirm its status, seek guidance from ADAMAS and your treating doctor.
